DB2 Used Space and REORG

02 February,2011 by Tom Collins

I have the thresholds set at 95% for tablespace used . When the threshold is met a message is triggered like :

USERSPACE1 in MYDB has 95 pct used. Instance: db2inst1 First Occurrence: Tue Feb 01 15:29:58 2011 Last Occurrence: Tue Feb 01 15:29:58 2011 Email client: smtp1.myprod.net

There is minimal INSERT,UPDATE,DELETE activity in this database , therefore I would commit a REORG and RUNSTATS via  a shell script. On most occasions this action will decrease the space used. Note: this script runs usually once a week – but it had not run for a couple of weeks , due to a scheduler issue.
